Podcast – The Vicious Vinyl Homebrewer

On this episode of the Ale Evangelist Show, the Scotsman, Rodbo, and Drew are joined by a very special guest. Homebrewer Scott from the Ripon Brewins joins us to pour 4 of his homebrews for the show. He poured an American Amber, a Chocolate Brownie Stout (dude, I could drink a KEG of this), a Pumpkin Pie Ale, and a Pale Ale.

The guys discuss the intentions and inspiration of the brewer, the differences in various styles, and provide very few pointers on how the beers can be improved. (Good stuff, Scott!  Cheers!) It was a lot of fun, and this episode is not without the rabbit trails the guys have become known for.

The State of Jefferson makes a reappearance, and the Vicious Vinyl Homebrewer explains how he got his Instagram name.

Podcast: Should we shed a TIER?

An Icelandic Scottish Beer??? Well…yeah, we’ll try it!

On this episode of the Ale Evangelist Show, the Scotsman reunites with Drew and Whitey to talk about why Rodbo was…well…indisposed and unable to record. Quickly the topics turn to (what else?) beer!

After talking about what has been up in a beery fashion, the guys discuss briefly whether the oft-maligned three-tier system has actually been GOOD for craft beer. (Say it ain’t so!)  Could the tax breaks and sales restrictions actually be good for small breweries? Should the three tier system remain so craft beer can continue to thrive?

This beer was…absolutely odd. Listen to find out what we thought about it!

Next up, the Scotsman decides to get rid of his Zymatic…sort of. He’s replacing it with the NEW version (and you can, too, at 50% off, even!!)  If you buy the new Z, use the official Ale Evangelist Show code: KYTHD, to score $50 off!

Finally, they try the second edition (from the same bottling) of Listener Clay’s Irish Red.  Is it better with age? Are the bottles inconsistent? The guys all talk about what potential issues can come about when you bottle beer.

All of this excellent content along with two different Whitey-supplied show beers means you don’t want to miss this episode of the Ale Evangelist Show!

Podcast: Solo Local Grab Bag

On this solo episode of the Ale Evangelist Show, the Scotsman covers a variety of topics, most of which center around the Central Valley beer scene.

To begin, the coveted uKeg finally arrives, and the Scotsman discusses whether it was worth the 3 year wait.

Next, FINALLY, Blaker Brewing is open, and the Scotsman gives his impressions of the taproom as well as the brewhouse. Is it worth drinking? Is it worth visiting? If you’ve been listening to the show for any length of time, I think you know the answer to those questions, but you might be surprised at the lone criticism he has for them.

Finally, the Scotsman reviews our last remaining local homebrew supply store, Renegade Brewing Supply, and gives his impressions of whether they’re a worthy local business. (Anyone who’s been there already knows that answer beyond the shadow of a doubt.

It’s solo, but the Scotsman can pontificate (or bloviate) with the best of them. Don’t miss this episode of the Ale Evangelist Show!

Podcast: Changing the Brewing Landscape

Oh man, the Scotsman loves this one.

Oh man, the Scotsman loves this one.

On this episode of the Ale Evangelist Show, the guys talk about the very real possibility that everything is about to change. You see, there’s thisnew product on the market, which….well, which the guys are going to discuss the implication of in GREAT detail.

Is craft beer about to become something none of us recognize? To console themselves, the Scotsman and Drew drink a RimFire Red from Tap-It Brewing Company, and speculate about whether the process of brewing really matters.

Add to that a packed beer calendar, and you have a Ale Evangelist Show Extravaganza!
